Ready to securely store your cryptocurrency? With Trezor, safeguarding your digital assets is easier than ever. This guide will help you set up your new Trezor device using Trezor.io/start with the latest features in Version 24.9.2. Let’s get started!
There are two Trezor models to choose from:
Trezor Model One: A classic, reliable model with support for major cryptocurrencies.
Trezor Model T: The advanced model with a full-color touchscreen and enhanced features.
To avoid counterfeit products, always purchase directly from Trezor's official website or an authorized retailer.
Open a browser and go to Trezor.io/start. This page provides the necessary tools and instructions to begin setting up your Trezor device securely.
Trezor Suite is Trezor’s official application that allows you to manage your cryptocurrencies safely.
Download Trezor Suite: Available for Windows, macOS, and Linux.
Install and open the app after downloading.
Tip: Although a web version is available, we recommend using the Trezor Suite desktop app for the highest level of security.
Use the included USB cable to connect your Trezor device to your computer. Trezor Suite will guide you through the initial setup steps.
Device Activation: If this is your first time using the Trezor, you’ll be prompted to install the latest firmware. The process is simple—just follow the on-screen instructions.
Firmware updates are crucial to keep your device secure and compatible with new features. If prompted, confirm the firmware installation on both your computer and Trezor device. Once installed, your Trezor may need to be reconnected to proceed.
You’ll have the option to either:
Create a New Wallet: Choose this if you’re setting up a brand-new wallet.
Recover an Existing Wallet: If you’re restoring a wallet, follow the on-screen instructions.
Once you choose “Create a New Wallet,” the device will generate a recovery seed (12, 18, or 24 words) that you must write down carefully.
Important: Store your recovery seed securely and offline. Never share it with anyone or store it online, as it is the key to recovering your wallet.
Trezor prioritizes security, so the next steps are important:
Set up a PIN: This PIN will protect your device from unauthorized access. Make it unique and memorable.
Optional: Passphrase: For added security, you can set a passphrase. This step is recommended for advanced users and adds an extra layer of security.
Trezor supports a wide range of cryptocurrencies, from Bitcoin (BTC) and Ethereum (ETH) to Litecoin (LTC) and many others.
In Trezor Suite, go to the Accounts section and add the cryptocurrencies you plan to manage.
You can now send, receive, and monitor your crypto assets securely.
Congratulations! With your Trezor device set up, you can:
Send and receive cryptocurrency directly within Trezor Suite.
Track your assets: Monitor your portfolio and check real-time values.
Stay secure: Verify all transaction details on your Trezor display.
Back up your recovery seed: Consider storing it in multiple secure locations.
Update firmware regularly: Keep your Trezor device updated to protect against the latest security threats.
Stay alert for phishing: Only use the official Trezor Suite app and avoid sharing sensitive information online.
Why can’t I skip the recovery seed step?
Your recovery seed is essential for regaining access to your wallet in case you lose your Trezor device. Without it, you risk losing access to your funds permanently.
Is my cryptocurrency stored on the Trezor device?
No, your cryptocurrency is stored on the blockchain. Trezor secures the private keys, allowing you to access and control your assets safely.
What happens if I forget my PIN?
You’ll need to reset the device and restore your wallet using the recovery seed. This is why securely storing the recovery seed is crucial.
Setting up your Trezor using Trezor.io/start is your first step toward a safer crypto experience. We’re here to help you navigate your crypto journey, secure your assets, and provide a smooth, user-friendly experience.
